PATRICE RUSHEN & HOWARD SMITH – “Closer to you” (1987)

Fantastic ballad co-written by Patrice Rushen and Sheree Brown exclusively for the movie “Hollywood shuffle” directed by Robert Townsend in 1987. This great melody is heard during a romantic scene in the movie and also at the closing credits but only for about 1.5 minutes. Never released officially until today so we hope to be available in the near future from a Soul label…..perhaps Expansion Records?

SKOOL BOYZ – “Nothing like a slow dance” (1984)

The title says it all and I couldn’t agree more. This great melody is lifted from the Group’s 2nd self-titled LP released on Columbia Records in 1984.

EDMUND SYLVERS – “Beauty of nature” (1980

The kind of melody you should expect from this Blog. Smooth, mellow and vintage. Taken from his only LP “Have you heard” released on Casablanca Records in 1980.

It’s worthy to note that Spike Lee’s forthcoming movie “Spinning Gold” is a biopic of 1970s record producer Neil Bogart, co-founder of Casablanca records. No wonder, Soul Disco is on the spotlight again !
